Our Defence Imaging division created the primary 3D visuals to support BMT Defence Service's successful bid in the recent tender to design the new Royal Navy MARS fleet tanker. Defence Imaging created a series of high resolution realistic 3D renderings of the BMT designed tanker in RAS operation with a Type 45 Destroyer.
BMT won this prestigious specialist design project in partnership with Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME). As part of the RFA's fleet, the MARS Tankers will offer logistical support to the Royal Navy.
The Ministry of Defence announced that four of these new Royal Fleet Auxiliary tankers will be bought as part of the Military Afloat Reach and Sustainability (MARS) programme. The 37,000-tonne Tide Class ships, costing a total of £450 million, will come into service from 2016 to replace the RFA’s single hulled tankers. Carrying bulk fuels, oil and fresh water they will replenish aircraft carriers and warships, both British and Allied, enabling task groups to remain at sea for extended periods.
Defence Imaging also created a set of similar 3D naval visuals for BMT DSL's recently successful bid to design a vessel for the Royal Norwegian Navy’s JLSS programme. The 26,000-tonne Aegir logistics support vessel (LSV) will also be built by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME).
