3D Computer animation is the art of creating moving images via the use of computers as the tool, and allows ideas and concepts to be realised. Virtual cameras can film conceptual ideas in synthetic environments that are limited only by imagination. We handle the full process; from initial sketches, storyboard, animatic, modelling, animation, lighting, special effects and rendering to to post production.

PRIMARY APPLICATIONS

The applications for 3D visualisation are varied, and are usually driven by our client's requirements. Past visualisation projects have ranged from ultra-high resolution 3D illust­rations of Dyson products for global marketing, to visuals of concept vessels for the Royal Navy. Possibilities range from photorealistic images of concept or existing products, to illustration of complex processes. CGI allows a high degree of control over the final output.

Post production is the further manipulation of the computer rendered elements. This may involve the blending of reality with digital CG to create composite shots, or may be fully computer generated. Photo montage is a type of compositing and can be useful for placing a concept product into a real situation - eg concept naval vessel into a seascape. At the other extreme, live action may be seamlessly composited with animated CGI elements.

This exciting technology can incorporate 3D models and animation into a real-time, live environment where the digital live view of reality (via smart phone or ipad) is augmented with overlays such as 3D animations or 3D models. In the same way that a modern fighter pilot's visor overlays contours and data over real terrain, data is overlaid to improve and add extra information to a live view through a handheld device.

Our primary role in this field is the production of optimised 3D assets for use in simulated or synthetic environments. The skill with any real time 3D system is to display rich computer generated content with a minimum computational cost. Real time systems must process data efficiently, therefore the 3D assets that visually define that environment need to add realism without overloading the system.

2D digital image editing and photo retouching is one of our core skills. Computer generated (CG) content can be skilfully composited into real-world scenes such as photographs and videos. This is very useful for illustrating concepts, new buildings, new vehicles, 'what-if' scenarios and producing dramatic creative situations. Many of our animated videos feature CGI-photographic composites and our digital matte painting skills are often employed to create suitable environments for CGI shots.

Whether it is a cutaway diagrammatic illustration of a submarine, or step-by-step image based instruction sequences for print, web and interactive applications, we will find a solution.
